How To Do Sun Salutation A and B

This is a walkthrough of Sun Salutation A and Sun Salutation B.

These series are a cornerstone of your yoga practice.  As with all vinyasa the movements revolve around the breathe.  With a fix on this principle, these series will engage your focus and smoothly work all of your body’s major muscle groups.

Sun Salutation A (Surya Namaskara A)

List of steps for Sun Salutation A (Surya Namaskar A)

  • Inhale to a flat back
  • Exhale to a forward fold
  • Inhale to come all the way up to standing arms reach high [Start of video]
  • Exhale to fold forward hands through heart center.
  • Inhale halfway up
  • Exhale high to low plank
  • Inhale upward facing dog
  • Exhale downward facing dog
  • Take a deep breath in, empty the breath, look forward and step or float to the top of your mat.
  • Repeat.

 

Sun Salutation B (Surya Namaskara B)

List of steps for Sun Salutation B (Surya Namaskar B)

  • Inhale to a flat back
  • Exhale to a forward fold
  • Inhale Utkatasna chair pose [Start of video]
  • Exhale forward fold
  • Inhale half way lift
  • Exhale high to low plank
  • Inhale upward facing dog
  • Exhale downward facing dog
  • Right foot forward come all the way up to warrior one
  • On the inhale arms reach high,
  • Flow as you exhale high to low plank
  • Inhale upward facing dog
  • Exhale downward facing dog
  • Left foot forward, come all the way up to warrior one on the inhale – arms reach high
  • Flow as you exhale high to low plank
  • Inhale upward facing dog
  • Exhale downward facing dog
  • Take a deep breath in, empty the breath, look forward, step or float to the top of your mat
  • Repeat.
